Look for the Beautiful Moments

Look for the Beautiful Moments… Witnessing the Plains Day Parade and Turtle Race Contest in Montana.

I share this because it is super important to have time to find joy in your every day.

As business owners, executives, and decision makers, we benefit when we create space to stop thinking about our work life and enjoy simple, beautiful moments from time to time.

Simple, beautiful moments that I experienced this weekend involved witnessing at least 65 excited children of all ages holding their freshly caught turtle from the nearby Clark Fork River waiting for the experienced auctioneer to call their number and place their numbered contestant in the center of a circle made from pink chalk drawn on the local bank's drive-through parking lot. So precious!

It is moments like these, moments of being so much in the present that you temporarily pause life's responsibilities and enjoy the sounds of laughter and cheer and the feelings of anticipation of winning the grand prize that make life worthwhile.

There were all sizes of turtles in the race, from tiny 2-inch babies to larger 10-inch wide adult turtles. And guess who won each round?

The turtle who was determined and knew where to go.

So, why share this today?

Two gentle reminders:

1) Determination is essential for success…Of course, you know this, and so to be successful, we must be determined to finish the race.

2) Experiencing beautiful moments throughout your day or week is also essential so that burn-out does not overtake us. Creating mindful moments, appreciating what is going well, celebrating wins, encouraging others, and tapping into creativity and curiosity are all elements of what makes a beautiful moment.

* no turtle was injured during this event and all turtles were released back into the river following the race. 🙂
